Since it is now believed that there are potential habitable planets based on space telescope observations the question would be how to get there. I have thought from time to time of standing on the distant shore of a completely new world, surfing waves of a new ocean or a mountain to look out over distant landscapes.
One challenge would be how to get there which would require engines capable of speeds faster than anything ever known to man. One of the other requirements would be the architecture itself being able to withstand the solar energy of sun(s) and atmospheric conditions of space. I know how it would be possible to make the architecture and outer shell of such craft with the right elements found here on earth combined with the process in which to apply them.
What I do not know and doubt anyone does is how to obtain speeds capable of reaching distant planets within a workable time-frame. There could be an extremely fast engine combined with an orbit of the earth to project and traject the vessel with great velocity on its path.
I guess there could be a million years or so for people to work on this since eventually the world will be a swirling mass of hot lava before its consumption by a star further along its timeline. That is also assuming that earth and its atmosphere are not trashed by the its cohabitants before that. Selfishly, I have a desire to enjoy the world as much as possible for myself and immediate loved ones in the near future and next 50-60 years lifespan and more for my children and grandchildren. There are requirements for making the world better even in the current and near future with good projects such as one of the proposed ways of cleaning up (and making money in the process) the garbage patches growing where the ocean jetstreams interconnect.
--The photoshop artwork on this page was completed completely from scratch using a lens flair effect after creating an ellipse and utilizing difference clouds in different colour modes. The stars were created from scratch using a noise effect over black background. The only external source was a photo of a model airplane inserted into the picture.
