Some notes on pumping systems for low atmosphere sealed environments. The brief notes here cover diffusion, cryogenic and turbomolecular. There are a few other ways to achieve low atmosphere than the ones listed here.

Diffusion
The diff pumps I was around were very large and could sound like a jet taking off if you were in the same room when the chamber was sent on its way to pump down to low atmosphere. It was intuitive to build a separate room behind the chambers in the lab to house the pumping system. Here is a link below to a diff related article
